Since the average game will need hundreds of smelters, consider automating their creation early on to avoid being force to make them manually every time you need them.
When creating mining bases in new planets it's normal to underestimate how many smelters you will need. Take with you both a decent amount of them and the materials to create more, specially Stone Bricks.
